With the passing of the assignment plan, please visit the following links to make sure that you’re aware of the changes in the selection of magnet schools and your base assignments for middle school.  Please contact your teacher or Robin Edwards (school counselor) for specific questions.

Where will my rising 6th
 grader go to school next year?
Current students who will be transitioning from grade 5 to 6 or grade 8 to 9 in the 2012-13 school year will be pre-assigned to their feeder pattern middle or high school based on where they are currently enrolled. To see the approved feeder patterns for all schools, please see:

This Quarter in Fifth Grade

Curriculum Areas

Reading-All fifth graders are reading a variety of fiction and nonfiction this quarter.

Writing-Student will be writing informational pieces that align with our nonfiction focus this quarter in literacy.

Math- Math Expressions has building on our understanding of place value to include decimals, reading graphs and rounding/estimation.  Unit 4 we continue to deepen our geometric concepts, which were introduced in the first quarter.

Science- Rotation- 
Mills: Weather/ Climate
Medlin: Landforms
Schlachtenhaufen: Motion & Design

Social Studies- Students will be working in units 2 and 3, the early United States through the Civil War

AGENDA


These organizational tools are an effective way to keep track of assignments on a daily basis.  Students write homework, projects, and important events in their agenda each day.  These should be checked on a daily basis by parents.

Snack

Please be sure that if your child brings a snack for school, that it is a healthy snack.  We do not eat candy during snack time.  Good choices might include fruit, jello, or crackers.
